Faculty Profile︎ Asst. Prof. Cinema and Media Studies, USC Thomas Patrick Pringle Thomas Patrick Pringle researches the relationship between media technology, culture, and the environment. He focuses on historical case studies that show how the production and circulation of fiction and nonfiction media participates in political contests of ecological knowledge, especially instances shaped by considerations of risk, inequality, and state violence. This work reflects broad interests in the historical ties between capitalism, empire, technology, and what counts as an environment in a given place and time. He is working on two books: The Climate Proxy, about why certain images dispute or stand-in for global warming; and Streaming Capital, about the media history of “natural capitalism.” .
